It's like weird Anyone home?
2. Free Spirit Spheres, Vancouver
If you’re after communing with nature these spheres are probably about as herbal as you can get. Canadians Tom and Rosy Chudleigh’s original idea was to enable people to hangout in a forest without making a carbon footprint. But the concept proved so popular that the spheres can now also be hung from anything solid or stuck in a ground cradle.
Built using sailboat technology the spheres are made of laminated wood strips over wood frames with an exterior of waterproof clear fibreglass and are tethered via anchor points on the top and bottom. But this eco-habitat doesn’t come cheap - a three-metre diameter sphere equipped with plumbing, electricity and insulation racks up at around £79 grand. Buckets are optional because these tree globes ‘gently rock in the wind’. Wonder if it has a barfroom?
