5. Super Immortality - Jellyfish
In the Marvel Universe the longest living superhero is The Grandmaster who’s longevity is attributed to the pursuit of playing games. In our universe this accolade goes to - would you believe - the Turritopsis nutricula jellyfish. In fact the TN goes one better - he’s immortal. Yup. Unlike the big G this jellyfish has no need for all that traversing space and time travelling jazz - he just reverts back to childhood when he wants.
While his brethren live only from hours to a few months when the going gets tough the TN can transform back to a polyp state by using a process called ‘cell transdifferentiation’ - basically absorbing various parts of itself and altering its cell structure. According to the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute it seems the TN also has designs on taking over the world. Since he is immortal and likes to travel around the globe in the ballast water of ships apparently “we are looking at a worldwide silent invasion.”
