Chongqing toilets

4. Chongqing toilets

We all know that the Great Wall of China is the longest fortification ever built but in 2007 the Chinese went for another record by building the world’s largest public toilets.

The 3,000m2 four storey porcelain palace, built largely from recycled products, holds no fewer than a thousand free-of-charge toilets and can house up to 2,000 people at any one time. The colossal colourful crapper, which resembles a bizarre Egyptian theme park, features such delights as urinals made in the shape of gaping crocodile mouths and toilets as gold Virgin Marys. And, as if this wasn’t amusing enough, the loos are also equipped with piped music and LCD TVs. The local tourist board hopes it will attract more tourists.
