In 2010, a massive one in 10 of the planet’s population will suffer from malaria. And around a million of those will die.
Only pregnant female mosquitoes bite humans because they are looking for a nutritious meal of blood to feed their eggs. The malaria parasite infects the mosquito first and fills her salivary glands with parasites. As the mosquito bites the human, her craftily contaminated saliva is used to stop the blood in the wound from clotting so it flows easily as she feeds on it. The plasmodium parasite moves into your liver disguising itself inside liver cells and red blood cells, causing waves of high fevers and chills.
