It's like, weird Races
3. Yamakasa shrine race Japan
For around 750 years men have bared most of their bums and run through the streets at 5am, carrying huge floats in the Yamakasa festival in Fukuoka. The seven-metre shrines weigh over a tonne and are carried on the shoulders of 28 men. Seven teams compete over the five-kilometre course, which takes around 30 minutes to complete. Three men sit on the float to shout and scream at the shifting teams, which can be hundreds of men of all ages. The race attracts over 800,000 spectators. This is boy-stuff; women do not run the ‘Oiyama’. Watch it
