The East Coast Kinetic Sculpture Race

9. Kinetic art race Baltimore, USA

The East Coast Kinetic Sculpture Race, organised by the American Visionary Art Museum is part of a series held throughout America, where pieces of art are pedalled across land, water and mud, all in the aid of, erm, fun. In 2008, 29 teams attempted the 20km course and only one capsized in the harbour. Categories include: best speed, best engineering, best art and the Golden Flipper for best water entry. The race takes all day. Rules state that sculptures must be human-powered: ‘no pulling, pushing, paddling, or other propulsive method is allowed except by official pit crew and pilots, called Kinetinauts’. Watch it
