Woman looking thoughtful

1. Thought transmission

It’s a long way from telepathy but scientists at the University of Southampton have successfully transmitted one person’s thoughts to another through a computer. The sender’s thoughts, translated into binary code so their computer could understand them, were sent over the internet to the receiver’s PC, which transmits them to the receiver as a series of flashing lights. There are some drawbacks, though. Both sender and receiver need to be hooked up to electrodes that measure activity in specific areas of the brain  and only very simple thoughts can be expressed in binary code. Don’t chuck out the mobile just yet.
