Who’s this? Niki & The Dove are two people you’re going to hear a lot from as the year rumbles on. The Swedish duo has grabbed big headlines in NME and The Sunday Times since they hit the dance and underground scene back in 2010. Plus they’ve wooed most of the Radio 1 DJs, especially Annie Mac. With backgrounds in theatre as well as music, Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf put suitably strange performances in their videos.
How does it play? It begins slowly with Malin’s haunting vocals echoing through the percussion, then spins out with an electro dance beat that builds and builds. Swirling synths and samples kick off in the second half and the unusual, striking chorus that it sticks in your head. As NME says, they really are ‘one of Europe’s most exciting bands’. They also get remixed to the rafters by DJs wanting a slice so clubs, house parties and festivals are going to be sizzling with their sound.
