Flipside magazine is an award-winning magazine published eight times a year by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). It is available in secondary school libraries throughout the UK and on subscription to everyone

Aims and ambitions

The aim of Flipside is to raise the levels of interest in science and technology among 11-15-year-olds (Key Stage 3) students. Although the IET’s primary concern is engineering and technology, it took a far-sighted approach and applied its charitable status to the task of publishing Flipside. Award winning

In 2008 Flipside beat off strong competition to grab the Association of Publishing Agencies (APA) Award for the Most Effective Membership Magazine. A remarkable achievement and a damn good read, said the impressed panel of judges.

Research shows...

Research carried out by Childwise found that among a readership of 300,000: 84% of readers in schools rate Flipside as excellent, very good or good, 87% are more interested in science as a result of reading it and 73% say that it makes them more interested in science or engineering as a possible career choice
