Sony PS Vita Pocket player
What does it do? The Vita will be the most powerful handheld games console ever when it goes on sale on 22 February. A 13cm 960 x 544 OLED touchscreen is backed by (deep breath) wi-fi, optional 3G, rear capacitive touchpad, twin analogue sticks, two cameras, motion-sensing, 512Mb main memory, a quad-core processor and a quad-core graphics chip.
What’s it like to use? Think of it as PS3 horsepower squeezed into your pocket. When Sony plays to its strengths the power of the Vita is undeniable. Check out its own launch titles WipEout 2048, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Unit 13, a new squad shooter from the makers of the SOCOM series. It will also play your PS3 games on-the-go by streaming them over the Internet. On the downside, too many other launch titles look and feel like buffed-up smartphone fodder. And the price will put it out of reach for many.
