Specialized Allez Double 2012 Road race winner

Specialized Allez Double 2012

The Allez is mainly aimed at those wanting to clock up fast miles without racking up huge debts. For the money, you get a fairly light frame, excellent component kit and racing performance. The wheels are strong if a bit heavy, but are at least upgradeable in the future, if the road-racing bug really bites hard.

What’s it like to use? Comfortable, thanks to its Specialized Body Geometry saddle and carbon fork. And although you’ll be bent over like a racer, there’s enough flexibility in the set-up to make sure you won’t get a battered undercarriage when you hit a pothole. For riding fast, hard and long on roads the geometry and kit choice is spot on. And the gearing has been improved over its predecessor to make hills slightly less hard.

Flipside says: If you don’t want to spend thousands on carbon-fibre bling but do want to go quick, this is your bike.
