Jay Z gets into NBA gaming in a big way

Steve O'Rourke | 04 August 2012

Jay Z

He may have won 14 Grammys, headlined Glastonbury, set up a hugely popular clothing line and record label and even married the uber-babe that is Beyoncé, but that’s not enough for the man like Jay Z.

The 99 Problems star is getting into the videogames scene, in a typically big way, by becoming the new Executive Producer of the new basketball game NBA 2K13.

The long running series is basically the FIFA of the basketball genre and now it has Mr. Z working behind the scenes, gamers can expect even more bling on the production front.

Apart from a headline name, what does Jay Z bring to the party? Quite a bit, actually. For a start, the rapper is a basketball addict, to the point where he owns the NBA team, The Brooklyn Nets and even designed their new team kit and logo.

As far as the new game goes, he’s submitting a 24-song tracklist (featuring artists including Puff Daddy, Daft Punk, Coldplay, The Hours, Kanye West and about 5 tracks from the man himself).  In addition he’s also getting involved with the game’s ‘artistic style’ and even helping out on the in-game menus.

From rap genius to hardcore games coder overnight? Who can say, but at least we’re assured of a decent looking and sounding b-ball experience when the game launches in October.
